WEEK 3: The Suffering Servant & Our Risen Savior
DATE: March 16th
PASSAGE: Psalm 22, Matthew 27:46, John 19:23-24, Mark 15:29-32, Hebrews 4:15-16
FORETOLD IN THE OLD TESTAMENT:
- Psalm 22 - The Suffering Savior
FULFILLED IN THE NEW TESTAMENT:
- Matthew 27:46 – Jesus quotes Psalm 22:1 on the cross.
- John 19:23-24 – Soldiers cast lots for His clothing.
- Mark 15:29-32 – Jesus is mocked, just as described in Psalm 22.
- Hebrews 4:15-16 – Jesus suffered so He could sympathize with us.
APPLICATION FOR OUR LIVES TODAY:
- Jesus understands our suffering – When we feel abandoned or in pain, we are not alone – He has endured this and more.
- Trust in God’s faithfulness – The Psalm ends in victory, just as Jesus’ suffering led to resurrection. This is not the end of our story.
- Use lament as worship – Jesus cried out to God, showing that faith includes honest emotions. Be honest before God in your suffering.
